Bristol Redistro

We raise money from people who have more than they need to get by, and gives grassroots groups the power to decide how it is used to create social change.

Summer outreach

We've had a busy summer, initially focusing on spreading the word in areas we haven't received many applications from in the past (eg north and south Bristol) and then working to find more people who can offer support to our groups who achieve so much with so little. Here's what we got up to: Taking … Continue reading Summer outreach

Who were our R7 scorers?

Why do we invite applicants and previously funded groups to decide who gets funded? This is why: “Compared to other charities, foundation boards were disproportionately homogeneous, being 99% white, two thirds male and almost 60% over the age of 65. Despite many pockets of excellent and thoughtful practice, it was abundantly clear that foundations are … Continue reading Who were our R7 scorers?

Changes to Round 7

Round 7 closed for applications on 7th of August and applications are now being scored. The decision-makers are people from groups we’ve funded in the past – and this year also applicants themselves. This was one of a few changes we made to our process in Round 7.  Why do we take this approach to … Continue reading Changes to Round 7

Info on R7 applicants

We have an update for you on our Round 7! We received 71 applications initially, a real bumper round (nearly twice last year) and have now checked them all over. 58 of the groups are eligible, requesting a total of £55,640.  Applications have been received from right across the city from a range of groups, including … Continue reading Info on R7 applicants

68 applications received for R7

Today our round 7 application period closed and we received 68 applications, by far our biggest yet (last year we received 37). It's so inspiring to see how much is going on at grassroots level in Bristol. We have applications from right across the city, Southmead to Hartcliffe, Easton to Lawrence Weston, and covering a … Continue reading 68 applications received for R7

We’re open for applications!

Thanks to some unexpected generous donations we are now open for applications of up to £1,000 to our 7th funding round! Deadline is 7th August.  We're looking for small groups set up and led by a community most affected by inequality (eg women, non-binary, LGBTQ+, working class, disabled, migrant, Black and racially minoritised people). The group must be … Continue reading We’re open for applications!

Round up of Round 6

In 2020 we completed our first funding round, raising and distributing £6,350 to seven grassroots groups. This was a trial to see if it worked in Bristol and if there was a need for it here. We wondered if there were enough small, community-led groups in Bristol that needed funding - and we’ve learned there … Continue reading Round up of Round 6

NEW Community Response Fund

We are facing difficult times, with ongoing threats against our communities (eg racist riots, proposed cuts to disability benefits, Supreme Court ruling on gender identity..) We felt the best way we can help is to set up a Community Response Fund to support communities responding to these events. Often it's the people most affected who spring into action … Continue reading NEW Community Response Fund

What we got up to in 2024

Our activities in 2024 were guided by what we heard from groups during a meeting we held In November 2023, where we explored their needs and what we could do that is most useful to support them (see more). The main support they wanted was more funding given on trust and without restrictions, which can … Continue reading What we got up to in 2024

Round 6 funded groups

We ran our 6th round at the end of 2024. We received 37 eligible applications. The average income of the funded groups is just £1,900 per year. We raised £26,472 – 20 groups received the full amount they asked for (mostly £1,000 but a couple of £500) and the balance was shared between the remaining … Continue reading Round 6 funded groups
